Unusually a full house for the ladies this quarter with the majority women in translation: The Missing of Clairdelune (French), Käsebier Takes Berlin and Empty Hearts (German), The Memory Police (Japanese). Erebos 2 is a new German release. I’m not going to wait for the translation because Poznanski’s Erebos (1) is the best young adult novel I’ve ever read. The Hiding Game is the only Anglophone novel in this selection, but, with the Bauhaus as its theme, I suppose it could be viewed as the honorary German in the pack.
Thanks, as always, for the great recommendations. I’m reading Fiona McCarthy’s bio of Gropius, so I must order The Hiding Place from across the pond to read right afterward (I don’t think I could wait till 2020!). Already reading the second volume The Missing of Clairdillene, which I would not have heard of if not here!
I’m starting the Dabos today. I ***forced*** myself to wait till nearer publication date. I do hope it lives up to my great anticipations ….
I’m a third of the way though. Interested to see what she does with Thorne! He doesn’t seem to improve, yet there is always that little edge of promise. What will Dabos do with that? In every other way, it is as strange and uncanny a world as ever!
I am also looking forward to “The Memory Police”. I have not heard of “The Hiding Game”, but I just read the synopsis and it sounds like something I will enjoy immensely. Thanks!
