The 2016 longlist was announced this week. There are 11 titles translated from German on this year’s list, and 9 have been reviewed, at one time or another by this year’s #germanlitmonth participants – proving what a well-read, clued-up bunch we are. 🙂

Question: When the 160 strong longlist is whittled down to the 10 title shortlist do you think any of these will make the cut?
Fascinating list! I though “Look Who’s Back” was a fascinating book. Although in some ways it approached its subject in a lighter manner than you might expect, it had a really powerful effect and really wormed its way into my subconscious.
Yes, it’s one of the unforgettables on the list. There is a film due out soonish – I’m not sure it will transfer to film easily.
Part of the fascination of the novel is being inside Adolf’s head. That’s something that’s bound to get lost when the reader becomes observer …
Definitely -I’m really not sure this will work as a film as the viewer will just get distracted by the image of Hitler seen on screen!
Been a good year I have read a number of these books look who’s back is such a great book and they did a great radio play of it the other week
I missed that. Hopefully it’s still on iplayer.
Drats. It’s expired.
Certainly not Tigermilk – I was disappointed with that one. Hope one or the other does make it through…
What a great idea to collect this list! Thanks so much for including me on it. I am honored to be included among such a great community of bloggers!
Thanks for the link! I will have to take a look at the longlist tonight. Who Is Martha was a beautiful book, and The End of Days was good as well. I have heard nothing but praise for Look Who’s Back, but even though I own the book, I cannot get myself to start reading it. One of these days…
Hi, I’ve only managed 4 out of 160, total shame!
Of the four F, Decompression, Live Bait and Harry Quebert, my vote would be for the last , The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair
Pat
I read F, Who is Martha and Decompression so I can’t comment about the others. Of the three I’d pick Who is Martha. The Truth about the harry Quebert Affair was a bloated mess.
I read and reviewed End of Days, The Giraffe’s Neck (and loved them both) also F and Look who’s Back (and did not care much for either). I started Tiger’s Milk but it went into my “life is short pile” – it was not the book for me.
‘The End of Days’, obviously – a clear stand out for me, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t make the shortlist 😉
