Callista at SMS Reviews is hosting another challenge.  I’ve signed up.  Fortunately this one does not begin until January 2008 and it’s irresistible as I’d previously decided to read a numberthon in 2008.    My final choices for the challenge will be listed in the sidebar when the time comes.  Preliminary list here.

Then, there’s the Back to History Challenge

It just shows the height of my TBR mountain when I can create this list without breaking sweat!  Final list will probably be decided in accordance with my whims at the time but, as part of the challenge is to mix up genres, I shall set myself the target of inserting 3 non-fiction (i.e real history) into the mix.

And finally the Russian Reading Challenge.  4 books within twelve months written in Russian or about Russia.  Again, no problem coming up with preliminary titles.    Final decisions will be made at the time and features in the right-hand side bar.

That should take care of 2008.   But, if someone would like to host a Viclit challenge …..

Famous last words!

Michelle is repeating the Decades Challenge in 2008.  I have to do this as it dovetails with my personal 20th Century challenge.  So I will (probably) choose come from the unread i.e unrated books on this list.

And finally – What’s In A Name because it’s not difficult at all!

6 books during 2008
1) A colour in the title: The Silver Swan – Benjamin Black (Themed Read Challenge)
2) An animal in the title:  The Cry of the Owl – Patricia Highsmith (Themed Read Challenge)
3) A first name :  The Luck of Ginger Coffrey – Brian Moore
4) A Place: Goodbye to Berlin- Christopher Isherwood
5) A weather event: The Gift of Rain – Tan Twan Eng
6) A plant: The Blue Flower – Penelope Fitzgerald (Decades Challenge)

——————————

Throw in the Themed Read Challenge and that makes 6, which is more than enough.  I’m still sorely tempted by 2NewToU, Young Adult Literature and the Reading Full Circle challenges …….

EDIT: 20.11.07

Finally got my reading full circle sequence : most of it will double up for my decades 08 challenge but I can’t resist a book puzzle. It’s taken ages to come up with this but I wanted a list with a goodly portion of female writers.  I came up with many a list with none!  Anyway I’m happy with this list as it also takes care of the 2New2U challenge.

Fall on Your Knees – Ann-Marie MacDonald (Award Winners Challenge)
On Beauty – Zadie Smith (Award Winners Challenge)
If on a Winter’s Night A Traveller – Italo Calvino
Night and Day – Virginia Wolff (20th Century Challenge)
Nightwebs – Cornell Woolrich
Spiderweb Penelope Lively
The Blue FlowerPenelope Fitzgerald (20th Century Challenge, 2New2U))
