Apologies to Book Blogger Appreciation Week. My time is so short at the moment, I can but be a perfunctory player. But let’s make that play a positive one, shall we?  How about a choose yourself a book giveaway?  Sounds good?  OK, let’s do it.

Simply pick yourself a book up to the value of £15 from The Book Depository and I’ll do something random to pick the winner on September 17th.  Ideally, I’d like you to choose something reviewed here on Lizzy’s Literary Life but it doesn’t have to be.  Perhaps I could give you a recommendation or 10 from my 2011 reading list:

Historical fiction fans should not miss out on Wolf Hall.

Sci-fi and detective fiction fans should take a trip to The City and The City.

Love short novels and novellas?  The Sense of An Ending or Next World Novella.  (Latter – review pending)

Short stories your thing?  Crime (if you are of that persuasion) or The Foxes Come At Night (if you’re not afraid of reflecting on mortality)

Fancy a laugh?  Law and Disorder

Something really, really gothic?  The Possessions of Doctor Forrest

Or something non-fictional about our favourite hobby.  How about The Pleasures of Reading in the Age of Distraction.  (I’m currently half-way through this and it is wonderful!)

Final recommendation is a 20th century classic – The Slaves of Solitude

Writing this post has made me realise what a wonderful reading year 2011 is turning out to be.  I hope the same is true for you.

To enter please nominate the book of your choice in comments and tell me why you want to read it.  Simples.
