My spy in Edinburgh took this photograph on Friday.
The fact is we’re still counting down on Lizzy’s Literary Life, for I have shown a modicum of remarkable constraint in not attending for the first two days. I have been preparing. Assembling the survival kit, and the books that I hope to get signed over the next two weeks. I hope to read some of them too, enjoying glorious sunshine in Princes Street Gardens. Should the elements have other plans, however, I’ll seek out a friendly bolt-hole, defrost with cups of hot tea (and possibly a wee dram) and feed myself some fantastic fiction.
I love sharing what is the highlight of my reading year so if you want to come along, stay tuned. The blog will be filled with journal entries, reviews and signed book giveaways like last year. Weather-permitting I may add some literary sightseeing and a few other surprises as well. In the meantime, let me present the true stars of the show.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please give it up for Lizzy’s 2009 Edinburgh International Book Festival In A Box!

wow, nice…
Inspiring stuff!
Wish I could be there, but will live it vicariously through your blog, Lizzy. :0)
Oh my goodness — what a box!!
Hope you have a brilliant time and look forward to your thoughts, views etc.
Now that is quite a box, I have those Maggie Gee books on my TBR so am very interested in your thoughts on those! I am most envious I can’t go but am sure with your blogs will feel like I am there.
Serious book lust. Well now you have certainly hooked me in for the duration. Hope you have a blast!
I’d love to meet up with you tomorrow afternoon (Monday afternoon). I’ve tried both the numbers I have for you with no success. Please could you send a text to my mobile with a time/place to meet – anywhere in central Edinburgh is fine with me. If you can’t get that to work just leave a message on my blog – all anonymous comments go into moderation if you are concerned about other people seeing it. Hope we can arrange something.
Have texted, Jackie. No idea what’s with the phones. Hopefully you got the text. If not, rendezvous at 15:00 outside Book Festival Entrance.
Wow; this sounds wonderful. I am drooling over your box of books LOL
Hmmm…wonder what my husband and my boss would say if I told them I’d like to attend this festival….Probably a ten hour flight from Texas….I’m sure they’d want me to go….
Debnance – there must be a way 🙂
7:00 am on 17.8.09 – Just leaving for Day One ….
Wow, that’s a load of books, how many events are you going to? I was there yesterday, seeing Geoff Dyer with Ang and Joe, and it was great. Hope to see you there sometime.x
