A contemporary classic.  Cult, gothic, macabre, twisted.  Not for the faint-hearted.

Full of tormented and tortured human beings.  The animals don’t fare any better either.  A novel that makes me feel sorry for wasps!  Now that’s an achievement for you.
Dog lovers should not approach this novel.
The promise of the legendary twist-in-the-tale kept me reading to the end.  Even so, I didn’t see it coming and the surprise wasn’t enough to save a very unpleasant tale for me. This wasn’t my first Iain Banks (I read The Business some years ago).  It is surely my last.
Final analysis – migraine-inducing!
