Just for the record – the more I read, the faster Mount TBR grows. I overestimate my capabilities. So, while I read 100+ in 2008, it simply wasn’t enough. For instance, here are the books, published in 2008, that I bought, haven’t yet read, but must do so asap to prevent them ending up forever lost in the gullies of Mount TBR.

Let’s add a few to the virtual TBR, books that I didn’t buy because I know the library has a copy. (Note to self for 2009: Cultivate the habit of checking the catalogue before pressing any buy-it-now buttons.)
The Spare Room – Helen Garner
The Attack – Yasima Khadra
Deaf Sentence – David Lodge
Daphne – Justine Picardie
Lush Life – Richard Price
You have there, in a nutshell, the reasons why I resolve (no, I don’t do resolutions – I only break them) am intent on reading any book, purchased in 2009 within a month of it crossing the threshold. What’s the point of books sitting unread on the shelves?

Der Struwwelpeter auf Englisch - Translated by Mark Twain

Mystic Pig - Richard Katrovas

Gosh – now that’s a TBR pile to be proud of. And I thought I had problems! Have a great reading NY
I share your pain with my own backlist, but this may be a natural side effect of the ‘reading life’.
Nice neat piles, Lizzy. You must read The Truth Commissioner and The Impostor – two of my favourite books of 2008.
We share a couple of books on mount-TBR – I must get round to reading the Kate Atkinson, and I’m waiting for the right mood before I start the Sasa Stanisic. I don’t think I’ll ever get round to reading the Gaynor Arnold, in fact it is probably destined for the charity shop on my next clear-out.
Lots of Happy Reading in 2009!
Get started on all those German books on the right, Lizzie! You know you want to…
