Down The Pub

I’m joining this challenge because

a) 3M’s picture is magnificent!  As will be the official pub site once all the reviews are available.

b) It encourages me to indulge myself with the new books I really want to read now ….. despite the wagging fingers pointing to my TBR mountain range.

The objective is to read 8 books newly published in 2008. (No children’s or YA titles.)  No idea what these will turn out to be – but here are a few that appeal  …..

1.Carsten the Trustee and other Stories – Theodor Storm (translated Dennis Jackson) (1/1/08)  (Plea to the lovely people at Angel Classics – please, please do not postpone publication of this …. I’ve had it on pre-order for the last 18 months – I really can’t wait any longer – I am truly desperate ……)
2. The People of the Book – Geraldine Brooks (7/01/08) 
3. Homecoming – Bernhard Schlink (08/01/08)
4. Fred Vargas – This Night’s Foul Work (2/2/08)
5. James Meek – Now we are beginning our descent  (2/2/08)
6. Charles Cumming – Run (2/2/08)
7. Jo Nesbo – Nemesis (6/3/08)
8. Patrick McGrath – Trauma (8/4/08)
9. The Man In the Window – K O Dahl (1/5/08)
10. When Will There Be Good News – Kate Atkinson (4/8/08)

I’m sure there will be more as the year progresses ….

But I do feel guilty about the box of published-2007 purchases that remain unread. So I’m adding to my personal in the pub challenge to assuage the smidgeons of guilt I have. 7 from 2007 to be taken from this list:

That 2007 list is from memory. There’ll be more stashed somewhere. I’m pretty sure though that if I looked for 6 from 2006 and 5 from 2005, etc, I’d find them.  Scandalous really.  How do I cure my addiction?
